Pin Up Bowl

The bottom line

Pin-up Bowl, as the name implies, is not your typical neighborhood bowling alley. With retro-chic decor, chic streets, and some super stiff drinks – Pin up Bowl is bowling at its finest.

I must admit that I am not a bowler. A strike here, a gutter ball there, I don’t recall my score ever really going over 100. But frankly, any bowling alley serving top-of-the-line martini and smooth cocktails sounds like a good time to me.

Guide Review – Pin Up Bowl

Our friends Melanie and Patrick are always ready to have a good time. So the couple, along with my husband and I, Matt set out on the journey to the Legends in Village West on a warm recent Saturday night. Walking from the parking lot to the back of the Pin Up Bowl, we heard the loud noise of the pins being knocked over, and Melanie and I laughed with joy.

We decided to have a bite to eat next to Jazz, and then we headed to Pin Up around 8:30. Upon entering, you realize that Pin-up is a super glamorous bowling alley. In the center, on the right, a luxurious and retro furnished living room, a fully stocked bar. Towards the back: a gift shop and a reservation booth.

If it’s your first trip to the Pin-up Bowl, I’ll give you the scoop. You can reserve lanes ($ 30-50 / hr) or enter ($ 3.50-4.50) and pay as you go. As we had not made a reservation, we were told that our wait would be 30 to 40 minutes. There are only 12 lanes and the later it gets, the busier they get, the longer you wait. They suggested we head to the bar, have a drink and wait in the lounge.

With time to kill, we head to the bar and peruse their extensive list of martinis and cocktails. For the girls, raspberry lemon drop martini’s ($ 7), Matt, Bud Light ($ 3.50) and Pat, a Red Bull and Gray Goose ($ 7). When we took our first sips, the three of us were impressed with the potency of our drinks. After 35 minutes of sips and animated banter, our lane was open.

As Pat set up our names on the scoreboard, I couldn’t help but glance around our surroundings. Groups of girls laughing over wine, couples cheering for each other, a softball team eating bar food.

With a dropped martini, it was my first at bat. Surprisingly one hit, too bad the rest of my game didn’t fare so well. I had a win (101-100) -Matt claims he launched the game, but my martini and I knew better.
