Pirelli continues to test 2023 F1 tires at Imola

The new era of Formula 1 began in the middle of last season, when Liberty Media announced with great fanfare the next generation of single-seaters in motorsport’s top category.

During the British Grand Prix we saw for the first time a scale model of the cars we now enjoy on track, with some teams betting everything they had to start development for 2022.

The change in the aerodynamics has been the most notable, and it is the one with the greatest visual impact, but there is a factor that has decided the victories at this start of the course.

The official tire supplier, Pirelli , began the tests of the 18-inch tires very early to have everything tied up when the moment of truth arrived, although the Italians do not stop there, as they continue to work on their products.

After the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, the Milanese company stayed at the Imola circuit to continue with the Formula 1 tire development program for the 2023 season.

Pirelli, together with Ferrari, Alfa Romeo and AlphaTauri, were shooting during the day on Wednesday at the Bolognese track with the #Fit4F1 experimental tires, as they call through their official Twitter account.

Throughout the morning, those from Maranello completed a total of 63 laps with the current world leader, Charles Leclerc, who gave the seat of the F1-75 to Carlos Sainz for the afternoon.

In the Swiss garage, Robert Kubica was in charge of going out on the asphalt with the C42 to score 81 laps, while those from Faenza did 50 laps with Yuki Tsunoda.

“A closer look at Charles Leclerc with our #Fit4F1 tire prototypes testing with Ferrari at Imola today!” Pirelli’s social media profile posted with three images of the Monegasque.

Alpine was another of the teams that was working with the tire supplier, since, with Esteban Ocon, they completed 122 laps on Tuesday, reserving their second day of testing for July 13 in Austria.

AlphaTauri and Alfa Romeo were also sharing a session with those from Enstone, and managed to do 121 laps in the case of Pierre Gasly, and 120 with Guanyu Zhou.

The 2023 tire tests will return on June 24, when Ferrari will visit the Mugello track.
