Jorge Martín will definitely drop out of the Italian MotoGP Grand Prix next week due to the injuries he has suffered since his fall in free practice in Portugal , the Italian brand’s test driver, Michele Pirro , will be his substitute.
Pirro appeared as a wild card in the official team in the first list of participants for the Mugello event , using one of the three invitations to which teams that do not qualify for concessions during the season are entitled.
Finally, as the young Spanish rookie did not arrive on time in his recovery process, Ducati preferred to take his place and save the wild card for another time in the course.
Martín , in addition to the race in Portugal, has missed the Grand Prix in Spain and France , in which he was replaced by Tito Rabat , who is making his debut this year in the SBK World Championship. The coincidence of the Estoril event, next week, with the one in Mugello, conditioned Rabat to once again replace ‘Martinator’.
Martín, who was injured on April 17, went through the operating room five days later to undergo three different surgeries: “One on the right hand, the big toe, another on the left knee that will take me a little longer, and then another one on the right foot, on the tibial malleolus, in total there will be three surgeries at the same time with three doctors and three different teams”, as explained by the pilot himself.
The rider hoped to be able to reappear at Mugello, the home Grand Prix for Ducati and Pramac, but for now he will have to continue with the recovery process. “The objective now is to return to Barcelona”, Martín said today in reference to the Catalan Grand Prix , which takes place on June 6.
In the year of his MotoGP debut, Jorge had made a brilliant start, achieving the first pole position and the first podium in the premier class in only his second grand prix, that of Doha.
