The Spanish rider is immersed in a real spiral of rumors about his future, accentuated by Honda’s decision not to let him test the new material that was for Marc Márquez and that has ended up on Takaaki Nakagami’s bike, an uncomfortable situation for Pol Espargaró , as he himself acknowledged on Thursday.
In this atmosphere of rumors that surrounds the runner right now, the concentration to be able to drive does not seem like an easy mission.
“It certainly doesn’t help all this atmosphere, but it’s part of this business, it’s what we have to deal with every two years when you have to renew your contract. Sometimes you have the upper hand and other times you have to suffer to look for a motorcycle,” explained Pol.
“At the moment I am quite calm, here at Honda I feel comfortable and they treat me well, there is some option to continue. Also in other places, I am honest, we have not been sitting idly by and I have other options that are very interesting, perhaps better economically than Honda, although at the end of the day, at my age, what I want is not money, but to be calm, happy and achieving results”.
“At the moment the results have not arrived and the bike does not work as we would like. We will consider the options we have in the coming weeks and we will decide very soon,” he assured.
One of the options outside of Honda that is sounding the most is to return to KTM, in the Tech3 team.
“There are different options and one of them is this, but now it’s all rumors and there are other riders with options. We have to see how everything ends up, it’s a chess game and we have to wait for the kings to move and then the others chips place us”.
When Pol says “stay in Honda”, it is understood that he is in the official team, Motorsport.com asked the man from Granollers.
“Well, to continue in Honda, in the structure of Honda. It is true that in the official team you feel much more loved, but we are seeing that Nakagami is more official right now than me, he is testing parts that I do not have. The team of Lucio (LCR) is a very valid team, with very good and experienced mechanics, the bikes are the same as the official ones and I wouldn’t worry about ending up there, it’s not a problem.
