Pol Espargaró: "If all Honda riders ride the same bike, there is no excuse"

A couple of races ago the Spaniard lamented the fact that those responsible for HRC did not offer the same material to all its riders. In his view, and based on his previous experiences, this is the best strategy to extract the maximum volume of information, since drivers can compare themselves with peers of the same brand without any reservations.

After registering the worst drought in its history – it has gone 19 Grand Prix without winning –, the brand with the golden wing has changed its record with a view to this test in Italy, where both the Repsol Honda team couple (Espargaró and Marc Márquez) and that of the LCR (Alex Márquez and Takaaki Nakagami), rode this Friday with the same motorcycle.

The fastest of them was the Japanese, seventh, four tenths behind Pecco Bagnaia, the fastest of all. In this sense, it is worth noting the physical problems that Marc Márquez still has in his right shoulder, the arm that kept him out for nine months after the fall he suffered last year in Jerez.

“I am happy that all the riders of a brand ride the same bike. So there are no excuses: the fastest is, period. I’m not saying it’s the best way to work, I’m saying it’s the one I like. I will not be the one to tell Honda how to work, for everything they have earned in the past”, commented the youngest of the Espargaró brothers, ranked 14th in the combined statistics, just behind his neighbor in the workshop.

The problems with the RC213V are so obvious that no one can hide them, much less on a track. like Mugello, which in the two central sectors incorporates a series of linked curves that leaves the embarrassments of the prototype in the air.

“I lose seven tenths in the second and third sectors, which are linked corners, quick changes of direction. We don’t have the best grip, and we had a hard time when we released the brakes and let the bike run. And we are also slow accelerating, with an incline”, pointed out the #44 .
