Pol Espargaró: "It's hard to enjoy Aleix's victory when you've crashed"

Happiness is never complete and on the day that Aleix Espargaró achieved his first World Championship victory and the first for Aprilia in the premier class, his little brother, Pol Espargaró, suffered an untimely crash that complicated the start of a season that, for now, , is being very negative for Honda.

Pol was the image of contradiction, happy for his brother, but totally depressed by a mistake that forced the Repsol team’s RC213V to the limit.

“It’s those days when you have contradictory feelings, you want to laugh and enjoy, but it’s hard, it’s difficult when it’s all or nothing, I’m very happy for Aleix and for Aprilia, but in the end I crashed when I was fourth and I was fighting with Alex Rins for the podium”, said the man from Granollers.

“I am very happy for Aleix and for Aprilia, they have had a great weekend, also Maverick Viñales, they have ridden very fast both days”, he added.

For the oldest of the Espargarós, the one in Argentina is his first victory in the World Championship, something that Pol had achieved in intermediate classes, but never in MotoGP, as his brother has done now.

“Aleix is a very fighting guy, who works a lot in his own way, always on the bike, effort is his priority and it is divine justice that this result has come, for him and for Aprilia, who have continued to work very hard despite to which it has taken them so many years to arrive”.

On Pol’s side, the podium achieved in the first race in Qatar was diluted by the poor result in Indonesia and the fall in Termas.

“Despite the crash we were fourth fighting for the podium, but it is true that things are not working out. In Indonesia it was because of the tyres, here despite going with the front ones I did not have a good feeling at any time, and that has It cost me the fall, a fall that was waiting for me because I was very close to the limit. To be able to be with Rins I had to recover everything under braking, because in acceleration the Suzuki struck us down”, he explained.

With the absence of Marc Márquez due to injury, Honda is now looking towards Austin, where the one from Cervera could reappear, and where Pol hopes to rediscover the sensations of the first weekend in Qatar.

“In Austin there is more activity, it is a more European-style circuit and I hope that the bike will work again like in Qatar, although until we get to the European circuits, it will be difficult for things to fall into place”, Polyccio settled sadly.
