Prince Harry plans memoirs – is Buckingham Palace threatened with the next scandal?

Prince Harry plans to publish his memoir. For the royal family, this could mean renewed media hubbub. There are enough subjects Harry could report on.

New York / London – Britain’s Prince Harry is planning something unprecedented in British history: the publication of royal memoirs. Prince Harry’s book is due to appear at the end of next year, as the New York book publisher Penguin Random House announced on Monday (07/19/2021). With this, the grandson of Queen Elizabeth II could once again provide some material for discussion about the royal family. Because the announcement comes at a time of extremely tense relationships between Harry’s young family and the British royalty.

At the beginning of April 2021, Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan left the British royal family and now live in California with their two children Archie and Lilibet Diana. With that they also resigned from their royal duties. The upheaval was preceded by allegations of racist treatment and statements by the royal family, which the couple had made in a spectacular interview with talk show icon Oprah Winfrey in March.

Prince Harry wants to tell his own story – “Intimate and warm”

Prince Harry and Duchess Meghan had also announced their motivation to move, they wanted more privacy and no longer wanted to be in the focus of the media. However, this should be over after the publication of Prince Harry’s memoir at the end of next year at the latest. The New York publisher described the book as “an intimate and heartfelt memoir from one of the most fascinating and influential global figures of our time”. Accordingly, Harry will also go into his childhood – the prince was only twelve years old when his mother, Princess Diana, was killed in a car accident.

“I am not writing this as the prince I was born as, but as the man I have become,” said Prince Harry in a statement published by the publisher about his book project. In the course of his life he “wore many hats”, both literally and figuratively. By telling his own story, he wants to show “that, no matter where we come from, we have more in common than we think”. Prince Harry wants to donate the proceeds of the book to charity. According to The Daily Beast, the entry bonus alone is likely well over $ 10 million.

Prince Harry’s Memoirs: Alcohol and Drug Abuse as a Possible Topic

The book will not appear until next year, but according to information from The Daily Beast, it should be almost finished. The US journalist and book author JR Moehringer acts as a ghostwriter. In his own memoir, The Tender Bar, Moehringer wrote about his alcohol addiction and how he managed to turn away from alcohol. He was also the author of the memoirs of former tennis player Andre Agassi and Nike founder Phil Knight. Both Knight and Agassi covered addiction in their books.

Prince Harry himself only spoke openly last May about his own abuse of drugs and alcohol. So it is entirely possible that this subject will be taken up more profoundly in his memoirs.

British royalty: is Prince Harry working on a scandalous biography?

As early as April 2020, rumors had spread that the former royal couple was already working on a scandalous biography, in which none of the members of the royal family is likely to get off too well. Duncan Larcombe also suspects that the royal family will be a main theme of the book. He is the former Royal Correspondent for the Sun and has already written a biography on Harry. “The truth is, in order to resell the book, he has to talk about the royals, otherwise no one is going to pay huge sums of money,” Larcombe told The Daily Beast.

The strained relationship with his brother William or his father Charles could also be taken up in the memoir. “I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to share what I have learned in my life so far, and I am delighted that people are reading a firsthand account of my life that is accurate and completely truthful,” said Prinz Harry in a statement from the publisher.
