Since last May, we began to see Honda working on a new motorcycle that presented obvious differences at first glance. At the Misano test in September, the gold wing brand’s riders turned heads when the first version of the RC213V appeared on the track.
After the premiere, Marc Márquez stated that “the 2022 Honda is quite a different concept”. But the Catalan suffered an eye injury before the end of the season and missed the first test for next year, leaving development in the hands of Pol Espargaró, Alex Márquez and Takaaki Nakagami.
At the end of the two days of testing, Polyccio showed his satisfaction with the 2022 bike because it had the grip he had asked for. The rider from Granollers (Barcelona) was in line with his teammate, pointing out that the new RC213V was very different from the one he has ridden this season: “It is a very different bike aerodynamically and, above all, it generates a lot of rear grip. elderly”.
Among those differences of the prototype that could be seen in the pitlane of Jerez, painted completely black, it was appreciated that the new bike is longer and more stylized, the entire tail assembly and the exhaust pipe outlet reminded of the Ducati or the Aprilia , in addition to presenting a Yamaha-style air intake and more dropped wings.
However, Alberto Puig , HRC Team Manager, has talked about the new RC213V and was surprised to say that it is not that different from the 2021 bike.
“Radically new, I don’t think so,” said the former rider on the official MotoGP website. “It’s different. We always try to improve small things, but many things. We have changed something on the bike. We think we are heading in the right direction. We will see. In the end it is a bike, we have tried to target the weak points that we believe, but also we have strong points that we want to maintain. We will see if we manage it and we are ready for next year.”Â
