Portimao.- Fabio Quartararo still hadn’t managed to win after taking the crown and it was difficult to imagine the boy from Nice on the top step of the podium, as it finally happened at the Autodromo del Algarve.
Quartararo gave a real punch on the table this Sunday and did not give any of his rivals the chance to tie him short. Neither Joan Mir, who started like a shot and placed first before Jack Miller took it off (lap 19), nor any other.
The victory of the Devil is the first of this season and turns the World Cup upside down when combined with the rest of the results. Not so much because of Johann Zarco’s second place, surely more circumstantial than indicative, but because of Aleix Espargaró’s third, another crush for the Aprilia rider, who is earning a renovation to match the dimension of his work uploaded to the Aprilia.
Listening to Quartararo, it seems unlikely that this victory would put him at the top of the standings, level on points with a majestic Alex Rins. 15 days ago, Marc Márquez made a tremendous comeback from the last place he occupied in the first corner, to the sixth in which he finished. This Sunday, Rins went even a little further, going from 23rd place on the grid to fourth. A frenetic climb that places him as a co-leader, and with confidence with the clouds.
Miguel Oliveira was fifth, ahead of the oldest of the Márquez (sixth), who beat his brother, Alex, at the same finish line. The fact that the first six bikes are from different brands gives you a slight idea of how tight things are, an impression ratified by the meager difference (three points) that separates the top three in the statistics.
In a dizzying last lap, Pecco Bagnaia (eighth) was able to overtake Pol Espargaró (ninth), while Maverick Viñales closed the top ten.
