After the Spanish event, Fabio Quartararo arrived at his local circuit as current world champion and provisional leader of the MotoGP qualifying sheet, a “home” track that seems to benefit the Frenchman.
However, the Yamaha rider missed the time attack, a dynamic that was not possible due to the excess of riders on the French track: “In FP2 I found a lot of traffic [of riders], but I don’t think I was the only one in have this problem”, he introduced after concluding the session.
Quartararo took the opportunity to call attention to the Race Direction, requesting to be more severe with the riders who stay in the middle of the track going slow, assuring that MotoGP “should lead by example”.
“It’s a problem [this situation]. If someone makes a mistake, they don’t need to stay in the middle of the track, bothering those coming from behind. I really don’t agree with this attitude.”
“When I was in Moto3 my example was the MotoGP riders, but if we behave like this, obviously Moto3 will do the same. They penalize Moto3 a lot, but never MotoGP. I think the penalties should be a little more severe in the premier class. I have never seen a driver sanctioned for this, maybe Jack Miller in Argentina,” said the Frenchman.
At Le Mans, Quartararo and Yamaha put the components tested in Jerez two weeks ago to the test, specifically the new swingarm that the Frenchman fitted to his M1 during the second free practice session, but is still not very convinced about.
“It’s been a good day, because the pace has been good, this morning I felt good, also this afternoon. We tried a few things in the second round of FP2, specifically the new swingarm, the one we tested in Jerez”, introduced Fabio after the session ends.
“The comments are more or less the same as I did in the tests. It’s fine, but I don’t know if it’s better or not to take risks. We’re not too sure, we’ll see the data, but my first impression is to keep the previous one for tomorrow. No there are positive or negative aspects, my feeling with the bike is sometimes better under braking, but in the corners it is more complicated. I prefer to use something that I am sure works to something that I am not. But we have collected some data interesting for tomorrow.
