Sepang.- The performance insufficiencies of the Yamaha have led Fabio Quartararo, leader until last Sunday of the championship general, to lose a large part of his options to be crowned again as he did in 2021, despite the fact that already then he complained of the shortcomings of the M1 that he drives.
With two races ahead of him, and although mathematically he still has tangible options (he is 14 points behind Pecco Bagnaia), the Frenchman assures that “I have nothing to lose”, that he wants to “enjoy the races”, something that “has been a long time since I don’t do” and, this Friday, at the end of the first day of the Malaysian Grand Prix, he assured that he wants to recover his driving style.
“In the afternoon session he took a little more risk, but the conditions were very complicated. When we finally put on the slick tires (dry) it went well. But, especially in the dry, we will have to see how the Yamahas are and I believe that it is there where there will be a little more difficulties”, advanced.
After losing the 91-point lead he had over Bagnaia in June, Quartararo wants to test some changes to find a reaction.
“Honestly, we had planned to try something in FP2, but we couldn’t do it in these conditions (rain). Tomorrow morning it’s also going to be difficult because everyone is going to go back to soft tires to try to get into Q2.” , he lamented.
Now Fabio wants to recover sensations, enjoy the bike and return to his style, which he has had to change due to the lack of performance on his bike.
“Today I was able to work on my riding style, so it’s been good. It’s mostly about my maximum (lean) angle. I’m working on it because I’m lacking a bit of angle. Not often, but in some corners I lack a bit and that is what I have worked on, so today has been quite positive”, settled the one from Nice.
