The Yamaha rider has three victories in six races this season and is becoming the benchmark man. Quartararo is presented as the favorite to repeat this Sunday at Circuit de Barcelona, a track where he debuted his record in Moto2 in 2018 and where he already won last year in the premier class.
“I love this circuit. Even since Moto3 I was riding well and in Moto2 I got my first victory. In MotoGP it has gone very well for me. It fits my riding very well. We are going to try to have the best weekend”, introduced El Diablo on Thursday at the official press conference in Montmeló.
Quartararo was asked why he thinks this circuit is the best on the calendar.
“I think I can carry a lot of speed in the corner . The last sector I could do very fast. It is very fluid, there are not many changes of direction. This suits my driving style very well,” he replied.
The rider from Nice, in addition to being the one who has accumulated the most victories this year to date, is also showing the regularity that he lacked in 2020. For now he has only finished outside the top 5 in Jerez, where compartment syndrome ruined his race when was outstanding leader.
“I’m very satisfied. Last year it was difficult to go fast because I didn’t have any sensations with the front end. Since the Qatar tests I have recovered the sensations of 2019. This year it seems that I have the same sensations on all the circuits. We pushed hard for the holeshot because it is difficult to overtake if we go in a group. They have done a great job”, he explained.
The MotoGP market has been shaken in recent days with the signing of Remy Gardner and the renewal of Brad Binder at KTM, in addition to the confirmation of Jorge Martín and Johann Zarco at Pramac Ducati. In that sense, Quartararo contract ends in 2022 and will be a coveted piece.
“Now I focus on the present. The future will come. I’m not doing it wrong and I have a contract for next year,” he said.
The Frenchman also applauded the news that there will be an audience in the Barcelona stands this weekend.
“I am very happy that there will be an audience. The only thing that will change is that there will finally be fans. Even if there are not so many, it will be nice to see them and feel them. IF there is something to celebrate, they like to share it,” he stressed.
