Quartararo: "It's not nice to win and lose one of our own"

El Diablo led 21 of the 23 laps in the race after being overtaken by Pecco Bagnaia at the start. After the Italian crashed and got rid of Johann Zarco, who also passed him for a few moments, he opened a gap from the third lap tenth to tenth until he had a lead of more than three seconds.

For Quartararo it is his third victory of the season, which together with Bagnaia ‘s ‘zero’ puts him further ahead in the championship.

However, what should have been a day of celebration came to nothing due to the sad news of the death of Jason Dupasquier , who was very present in the parc fermé and to whom an unusually calm Quartararo after the victory wanted to dedicate it.

“Very strange sensations. When you think about forgetting a weekend in which you have done pole and victory, it means that there is no good feeling , that hyperactive feeling . This one goes for Jason. It is not a great feeling to win and to have lost one of our friends. It was very difficult to do the race, especially concentrating on doing these 23 laps knowing that every time you go through that corner you only have one thing in mind. Before leaving, during the minute of silence, I only thought about winning for him We have done it. Happy to dedicate it to him. A very sad day. I hope the family is doing well,” Quartararo said.

Returning to the race, the #20 debuted Yamaha ‘s dynamic holeshot during all the laps and was able to see the advantage it gives him.

“When I was behind Bagnaia, the first thing I saw is that the holeshot works very well. When I hit fourth gear and there was no one next to me I said ‘this is the holeshot ‘. When I saw that he fell I thought I had to Zarco has passed me and I have had to make very aggressive overtaking to lose time and try to open that gap that has been very important to win”, he explained.

His compatriot is now second in the championship, but 24 points behind Nice. And the next race is in Barcelona , his favorite circuit.

“Very happy to get to another circuit next week and forget a weird weekend. In Le Mans I was able to do a podium in very bad conditions. Now we are again showing that we are ahead. I was a bit worried about the arm because this is the most physical race. I haven’t had a bit of damage. On the last lap I was thinking if it hurt a bit, he clinched.
