The one from Yamaha, the undisputed leader of the World Cup when he arrived in Holland, the last appointment before the summer break will have more than a month to eat his head and it is not for less: Quartararo measured badly in the Cathedral, he wanted to get in where there was no room and when He didn’t play (fourth lap), given that he had the whole race ahead of him.
El Diablo put the front wheel of his M1 into Aleix Espargaró, who was riding second, and the front gear of his prototype did not hold. The current champion took over the Aprilia rider, who rejoined the track in 15th place and made a brutal comeback to fourth position where he crossed the finish line, after an anthological double overtaking.
That result and the abandonment of Quartararo – he crashed a second time – allow Espargaró to recover a good handful of points with respect to the leader, who now enjoys less than a grand prix margin.
The incident between the first two classified in the general table cleared the way for Bagnaia, who always rode alone and took his third victory so far this season.
Marco Bezzecchi definitively confirmed his tremendous progress with second place, the best result for the rookie in the heavy bike category. This is the 17th time in a row that a Ducati has finished on the podium, the best streak for the house of Borgo Panigale since the days of Casey Stoner.
Maverick Viñales, for his part, knew how to defend himself against attacks from Jack Miller to get on the podium for the first time as an Aprilia rider.
The Australian (sixth) and Brad Binder (fifth) were surprised by the strength of Aleix Espargaró, who put the bike to both of them in the last variant to sign, probably, the best race of his life.
Jorge Martín finished seventh and finished ahead of Joan Mir, Miguel Oliveira and Alex Rins, who closed the top ten.
