Raúl Fernández himself reported through his social networks that on Friday of last week he suffered a fall while training on a bicycle, fracturing the fifth metacarpal of his right hand.
The man from Madrid underwent surgery by Dr. Xavier Mir on Sunday morning, starting his recovery to try to get to the start of the Aragon Grand Prix this Friday.
Fernández appreciates both the work of Dr. Mir, as well as that of the physiotherapist who is helping him in his rehabilitation, Carlos J. García , the same one who has accompanied Marc Márquez in his recovery after the injury to his right arm.
At the beginning of August it was confirmed that Fernández will make the jump to MotoGP next season with the Tech3-KTM team.
With six races remaining in the Moto2 world championship, Fernández has 187 points, 44 less than the leader of the contest, his teammate Remy Gardner (231).
The fact that the Spaniard still has options to discuss the title with his teammate, will lead him to test himself this weekend at Motorland to try to race.
“I feel pretty good after the operation. We have already started our rehabilitation work and my hand is better than we expected, ”says the pilot in a statement from the KTM-Ajo team.
“I’m positive, although we have to improve little by little. I want to thank the team of Dr. Xavier Mir from the Hospital Universitari Dexeus Upper Extremity Unit, who treated me quickly, streamlined the process and were very professional”, he adds.
“After what happened, I won’t set any goals for myself this weekend. I want to evaluate myself day by day, seeing how we feel, because my right hand is used for the gas and the brake.
“Aragón is a track that I really like, since I got my first podium finish in the World Championship last year. We will do everything possible to be able to run on Sunday, if my hand allows it”, settles the Madrid native.
