The Turkish rider heads into the penultimate round of the WorldSBK season in Argentina as the championship leader with a 24-point lead over Jonathan Rea. During this year, Razgatlioglu was linked with a possible jump to MotoGP in 2022, but in the summer he renewed with Yamaha and postponed it.
Last month he revealed that he will test the MotoGP M1 before the end of the year, although he once again insisted on his intention to continue in WorldSBK for one more season. However, the 24-year-old runner is open to making the leap in 2023 .
Razgatlioglu hopes to break Rea’s hegemony this year and defend the title next year. And there, depending on the sensations he had in the test with Yamaha, he will assess what options he has. In any case, the one from Alanya will not make the jump at any price and is clear about the conditions that must be offered.
“I’m happy to do a MotoGP test because I’ll see the bike before I race,” Razgatlioglu told Motorsport.com at San Juan Villicum . “Maybe I like it, maybe I don’t. But all the drivers say they like it. But we’ll see, it depends on the style. We’ll see, maybe if I don’t like it, I’ll stay here. Maybe I don’t have a good contract and I don’t go to MotoGP. I need a good contract to go to MotoGP too. I need a factory bike. I hope that this year we win the championship, maybe next year too, and that I go to MotoGP.”
The #54 has 10 wins this season and has put Rea on the ropes after six years of dominance by the Briton, but he is aware that MotoGP is another story.
“We need time. I can’t say in advance that I am going to MotoGP and after three races I will be on the podium. I will never say that. The WorldSBK and MotoGP bikes are different, the tires are different, the braking is different. I will need time to adapt to the bike. I’m also happy about this, because I’m going to test before maybe going to MotoGP, “he clinched.
