Red Bull believes the FIA is in a hurry to "benefit a certain team"

With the aim of eradicating the porpoising problems that some teams have suffered from, the FIA announced last week that it planned to introduce a series of measures by 2023.

These measures include raising the edges of the floor and the diffuser, something that will have a great impact on the design of the cars. However, this new regulation has not been well received in the paddock, as it has been learned that at least five teams are not happy with what has been proposed.

Some teams are pressing FIA president Mohammed Ben Sulayem to water down initial proposals and come up with a competent solution that doesn’t require a fundamental rethinking of the single-seater floor.

While the FIA insists its actions are necessary for safety reasons, Horner is far more skeptical of the situation, believing the push for changes is being caused by Mercedes, which has battled porpoising for much of the season. season.

Speaking to Sky , Horner said that the changes planned for the Belgian Grand Prix, which include the reduction of the flexible floor, did not worry his team too much.

However, the Red Bull driver was adamant that it was a mistake for the FIA to push through the floor modifications it has proposed for 2023. “I think the problem is what they are looking at as a remedy for next year,” he said.

“I think there is a lot of pressure to change the regulations significantly for next year so that a certain team can run their lower car and benefit from that concept.

“It is a very late time of the year to do this. I think the president is doing the right thing, he is gathering all the information, and I hope that a sensible solution can be found. Because it is already too late to make fundamental changes in the regulation.” .

Horner believes the FIA’s intervention goes too far because Mercedes can eliminate any excessive bounce simply by increasing its ride height.

“It’s easy,” Horner added. “We haven’t had any problems all year. There’s only one team that has had a big problem.”

“We have some of the most talented engineers in the world in the sport, and I can pretty much guarantee you that if we come back next year, there probably won’t be any cars with these kinds of problems.”

“In the last couple of races it has looked good. It looks good here so I think what we don’t want to do is overreact which could have fundamental impacts on next year’s cars.”
