With Ferrari set to bring a major upgrade package to the 2022 Spanish Grand Prix, Christian Horner is well aware that the Barcelona weekend will be highly representative of where each team is in the grid pecking order.
Although it is true that Ferrari started the season with a slightly better state of form than Red Bull, the Austrian team managed to take several steps forward thanks to its continuous updates and in the last races they showed their superiority.
However, the team from Maranello will introduce its first improvements this coming weekend at the Circuit de Barcelona – Catalunya with the intention of turning the situation around and once again being at the top of the grid in terms of performance.
Analyzing the situation of both teams and the characteristics of their cars, the director of energy drinks, Christian Horner , explained the reason why he thinks that Ferrari will be the great favorite in the Spanish GP.
“Barcelona is a completely new challenge. They are high-speed corners and we know they are strong in that area. So they are favorites for this race. Miami suited us, we were able to make our car work and luckily we achieved the desired result.” said the one from Red Bull .

Horner also praised the performances that Max Verstappen has had during the current campaign and assured that he has kept the driving that led him to win the world title in 2021.
“I think he’s driving with great maturity and he’s doing a great job. Last year Max was driving at an unbelievable level and this year he’s just continued down that road.”
Despite Verstappen ‘s strong start and the way Red Bull has improved its performance since making some improvements at the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix, Horner explained that the gap between the top two cars is not great.
“I think we’re very evenly matched. It’s just about having the best race and the best weekend you can.”
“There is a long way to go and I think it will continue to be a very close battle with Ferrari , it has been a great start to the season, and you can also see the great respect that exists between both drivers, Charles and Max .”
“They enjoy competing with each other, you can see it on track every time they meet. I didn’t expect us to have another very competitive year from the start like last season, but it looks like this one could also feature a fight that goes all the way.” .
