Since the last Singapore Grand Prix, all eyes have been focused on the energy drink team following a rumor that two teams had exceeded the Formula 1 spending limit in the 2021 season, the first with the new financial regulation in force.
One of them would be Red Bull and the other, always presumably speaking, Aston Martin.
However, from Milton Keynes they did not take long to distance themselves from these speculations and it was the team’s director, Christian Horner , who assured that they had complied with the budget cap of last season.
That did not cut the rumors, which also indicated that one of those two teams, more specifically Red Bull, had exceeded the limit by more than 5%, which by regulation is considered a serious violation and could even lead to exclusion from a championship. full.
Initially, the FIA was expected to issue the certificates of compliance last July, but they made the decision to delay it to September, then to last Wednesday, October 5, and that same day they postponed it again until next Monday, October 10. .
Obviously, these delays, especially the last ones, have made more than one think that it was due to the possible problems that the governing body would have found with some statements and specifically with that of Red Bull, something that the Austrian team rules out for now.
In Suzuka, during the 2022 Formula 1 Japanese Grand Prix, Horner spoke about it again and assured that they had nothing to do with the FIA’s delays , since they were waiting, like the rest of the teams. , certificates of compliance with 202.
“Look, we expected to receive the certificates also on Wednesday, it was really something that we expected, but yes, it has been delayed, and it is the same for all the teams.”
“It has obviously been the FIA that has made that decision, so we are waiting, with interest, to see what happens next Monday,” explained the Briton.
The Red Bull director also took the opportunity to repeat, once again, that his team was very convinced of having strictly complied with the 2021 financial regulations and, specifically, with the Formula 1 spending cap for that same season. .
“But again, we believe we have complied 100% with the cost cap and the regulations. We are happy with our presentation and look forward to hearing the [FIA’s] response,” concluded Christian Horner.
