Restaurants in Marseille

You will eat well in Marseille. There have always been good restaurants here, but since Marseille became the European Capital of Culture in 2013, the restaurant scene has improved enormously in both the quality of the cuisine and the number of restaurants, particularly with the young chefs who they move to the city. While you’re here, try some of the local delicacies: Pastis as an aperitif; the famous bouillabaisse fish stew; and maybe pieds et parquets , which are tripe and pig’s trotters, more delicious than you think.

Le Petit Nice is the best restaurant in Marseille, and it’s expensive, but it’s worth every euro. Eat on the terrace overlooking the sea to enjoy a magnificent view.

Gérald Passédat has 3 Michelin stars obtained through completely ingenious dishes that you will not find anywhere else. This is the place for fish you probably haven’t heard of, brought in daily by traditional fishermen and immediately cooked in sublime style. Le Bar 1917 (1917 was the date the Passédat family arrived in Marseille) serves slightly less expensive dishes. The villa-style hotel has been recently renovated.

It might not look fancy from the outside, but Le Miramar is where the locals look for some of the best bouillabaisse . And it attracts visitors in the know; actor Nigel Havers recently showed up for dinner. Or try the excellent seafood plateau (€ 118 for the plate for a minimum of 2 people, although you can feed more). Meat eaters prefer duck in orange or excellent fillets.

The restaurant, open to the public every day, is on the roof of the famous Marseille Rowing Club . Pass a serious gym and all the trophies the club has won before hitting one of the best views of Marseille. The club is located on the hill and looks towards Fort Saint-Jean and MuCEM. The terrace decoration is charming, with plants growing alongside the tables, tables and chairs in bright colors and wood throughout. Good menus with a mix of fish and meat; tapas and a barbecue. It’s great at night when Marseille lights up.

If you’re a fan of Le Corbusier and the 1950s, Le Ventre de l’Architecte is the place to eat after touring the vast complex. It is on the 3rd floor of Le Corbusier ‘s Radiant City and is complete with iconic furniture 1950 the likes of Jacobsen. It is a good setting for a modern and inventive kitchen. Chez Madie – Les Galinette is my favorite restaurant in Marseille. It has an indoor dining room with modern art on the walls and a comfortable outdoor terrace. The current owner took over the restaurant 20 years ago, so she is celebrating her birthday this year. The service is charming and the food of high value. Specializing in Provencal dishes, choose fish or meat; They are both equally good.

Lunch menus from € 15; dinner menus from € 22.

This cheerful-looking restaurant is, not surprisingly by name ( La Boite a Sardines , or The Sardine Tin), known for its seafood and shellfish, all of which is served flapping fresh and certainly not out of a can. It’s fun and good value for money with menus ranging from € 15 to € 25. If you visit Longchamp Palace and its two museums, this is the place to be.
