What happened in free practice 1 of the Miami GP, Friday’s FP1?
The completely new nature of the Miami Speedway was apparent from the start, as car after car overbraked at Turn 1 on their first flying laps.
Leclerc was the first to spin there, along with Yuki Tsunoda (AlphaTauri), while Leclerc’s teammate Sainz suffered another big spin at Turn 4. That came after a red flag after Bottas lost control. of his Alfa Romeo at turn 7, in the tricky left-hander where he severely damaged the rear of his car.
Leclerc finished the session just 0.071s better than Russell’s Mercedes, while Verstappen was third, 0.179s off the lead, despite finishing his session early due to cooling problems in his car (he did just 14 laps).
His teammate Sergio Pérez was fourth fastest, ahead of Pierre Gasly (AlphaTauri), Sainz, Alex Albon (Williams) and Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes).

What happened in free practice 2 of the Miami GP, Friday’s FP2?
There was more drama in FP2, in which Sainz was quickest at the start and then smashed his Ferrari into the wall at Turn 14, causing the second red flag of the day.
Shortly after the restart, Verstappen, who had not yet been able to lap due to reliability problems, suffered a failure that caused the rear brake of his Red Bull to catch fire, and Lance Stroll’s Aston Martin nearly collided with him from behind when the Dutchman had trouble getting the car back to the pits.
Verstappen was unable to post any timed laps and ended the day, like Bottas (unable to lap after his F1 accident), without a complete lap.
There was another brief red flag later when Nicholas Latifi was left stranded with the Williams after reporting that something felt “strange”.
Amid the chaos, Russell was quickest on the soft tyre, a tenth quicker than Leclerc, and Pérez, who suffered a massive spin at Turn 12, finished third.
Hamilton was fourth, a further tenth behind, ahead of Fernando Alonso (Alpine), Lando Norris (McLaren) and Pierre Gasly.
