What happened in Free Practice 1 of the F1 Netherlands GP 2022? How have they been?
Max Verstappen caused a red flag early in FP1 when his Red Bull stalled with a gearbox problem that ruled him out of the session after just a few laps on hard tyres.
Fernando Alonso moved to the top of the table by mounting soft tires before anyone else, stopping the clock in 1m13.635s, but was soon overtaken by Lando Norris with a 1m12.929s and then Carlos Sainz with a 1m12.845s.
In the beginning, the Mercedes ran longer on the hard ones, so the grip on the track had evolved more when they switched to the soft ones. Russell topped the standings with a time of 1m12.455s with 13 minutes to go, and Hamilton moved into second, 0.240s behind his team-mate.
Sainz was third, ahead of the McLarens of Norris and Daniel Ricciardo (who went into the gravel at Turn 11). Leclerc was sixth, ahead of Sergio Pérez, who went off the track but continued without touching the wall.
