What happened in the FP1 of the British Grand Prix 2022 Formula 1?

Rain soaked half of the British track at the start of Free Practice 1, but the other half of the track remained mostly dry, greatly limiting filming throughout the 60-minute FP1.

Sainz set a 1m42.967s on intermediate tires to take first place, ahead of Bottas with a 1m43.437s and teammate Leclerc with a 1m43.801s.

Hamilton was the first to mount the dry tyres, with just over five minutes remaining in the session, while Bottas moved up to first place with a 1m42.249s, also on the intermediates.

The Briton from Mercedes set a 1m42.781s and was the only driver to record a dry time, finishing second 0.532s off the pace of Bottas . Sainz and Leclerc finished third and fourth, ahead of Mick Schumacher’s Haas F1 Team.

Lance Stroll went off the track in his Aston Martin after a spin at Copse , causing a red flag to stop the session before the clock reached zero.

What happened in FP2 of the 2022 Formula 1 British Grand Prix?

In dry conditions, Verstappen recorded the first lap with a 1m31.438s on a medium tyre. But he was quickly overtaken by Leclerc and his 1m30.786s, on the same compound, which was 0.094s quicker than team-mate Sainz .

The Spaniard improved to 1m29.962s on his second lap, with the Dutchman more than half a second behind. The Monegasque Ferrari driver regained first place with a 1:29.639, and then dropped to 1:29.462. Sainz did the same and moved up to second by 0.081s, ahead of Verstappen , who was more than four tenths behind in third position.

Norris , on softs, set the fastest time with a 1m29.118s. But Sainz quickly took it away with a 1m29.014s despite this, before dropping to a 1m28.942s a lap later.

Hamilton moved into second place with a 1m29.105s, 0.163s behind the Spaniard but just ahead of Norris .

Verstappen achieved a best time of 1:29.149, which served him to be fourth, two tenths off the best time. Leclerc had a poor first stint on the soft tires and finished in fifth position, more than four tenths off his teammate’s best time.
