La Casa Marina is a great hotel with a lot of history, in a warm and tropical climate. Large enough to host real business meetings and gatherings, and close enough to downtown Key West, the Casa Marina is a very good option for business travelers looking for a spectacular setting for an event or venue for a historic meeting. . The service at the hotel was exceptional and comfortable, and the setting idyllic. Accommodations range from fairly simple studios to large modern or historic rooms in the main building.

Review of Casa Marina, Key West Florida

La Casa Marina is a great hotel with a lot of history. Conceived by railroad magnate Henry Flagler, the complex opened in 1920 as the last stop on the Flager Overseas Railroad. Since then the hotel has gone through multiple phases, from being an officer’s headquarters during WWII to hosting a Missile Battalion during the Cuban Missile Crisis, the hotel was renovated for $ 84 in the early 1990s. 1980 and restored to its original grandeur.

Today’s version of the hotel has pleasant historic public areas and meeting rooms, luxurious grounds, and beautiful landscaping. The perfect palm trees sway along the ocean walkway, with hammocks strung between them. For Key West, the hotel has great options for swimming, including a sandy beach and a pier with stairs. There are beachside restaurants, an outdoor bar, and several pools. The Case Marina has over 1,000 feet of private beach and easy access to tennis, golf, deep sea fishing and more.

There are also a variety of rooms, from more functional standard rooms, but with nice views, to larger suites and historic main hotel rooms with private terraces. One and two bedroom suites are also available. It has an impressively large gym. The resort is a mile or so from the main area of downtown Key West, but is still very convenient by car, taxi, or bus. It’s also basically right next to one of Key West’s great public beaches.

The Casa Marina is ideal for groups and conventions, with multiple areas for functions, restaurants and entertainment. Meeting space includes 22,600 square feet of flexible event space that includes three different ballrooms and four outdoor reception areas that can accommodate up to 200.

The general maintenance of the hotel seemed very good, even though it is a large property. The rooms we stayed in and inspected were clean and well appointed. Suites tend to be more modern and a bit understated (when it comes to drawers and clothing space). In fact, we prefer the older wing on the right side of the hotel with more standard type rooms. The view was nice, the rooms were comfortable and you can park on the side street, near the stairs and the beach.

It is difficult to manage such a large complex and not have problems here and there. For example, the light switch on the bedside table was difficult to use, but we got used to it. We also had a problem with the air conditioning on my first night. The front desk couldn’t fix it at the time, but they did find a great fan for me, which worked well. It was quickly fixed the next morning.

While upscale hotels can easily go overboard with free service that often reeks of tips rather than worries, the Casa Marina staff did something remarkable. They balanced a high level of service with a genuinely warm attitude.
