Since his debut at the 2011 British Grand Prix, Daniel Ricciardo has been a consistent fixture on the Formula 1 grid, but that streak looks set to come to an end from next season in 2023.
McLaren announced last month that the Australian will have to make way for his young compatriot Oscar Piastri after two rather disappointing campaigns. Due to this, in mid-August, Ricciardo finds himself without a seat for next year and with reduced possibilities.
Alpine, Williams and Haas have yet to confirm at least one of their two seats for 2023, as it is common knowledge that at least one of their current drivers will not continue next year, but it seems highly unlikely right now that the veteran driver Australian ended up sitting in one of those cars.
Listening to the statements of the directors of those three teams, other drivers seem to be more favorites for Alpine , Williams and Haas , so that means that Ricciardo would have to leave the Formula 1 grid in 2023 for the first time in more than one. decade.
The 33-year-old doesn’t like that idea, but by now it has sunk in: “I’ve definitely accepted it. I can go on living even if I’m not on the grid next year.”
“I have accepted that both my team and I are not going to do anything just to be on the grid in 2023, we are not going to do something that doesn’t make sense,” Ricciardo said of his future plans.
“When I’m on the grid, I have to be sure it’s a place I can enjoy myself and it’s an environment I think I can thrive in. I don’t want to get in a car just to be here.”
