Sepang.- Despite the obvious mechanical advantage of the Ducati riders on a track favorable to the characteristics of the Demosedici, above all because of his muscle, Alex Rins was one of the most solvent riders on Friday and Saturday, probably driven by the high that was still dragging from the previous Sunday, in which he achieved his first victory of the course, and the first for Suzuki , in Australia.Â
After finishing second at touchdown on Friday and securing a place in the second qualifying grid on Saturday morning, the Spaniard moved up to fifth on the starting grid on Sunday, his best starting position in what it’s seasonal.Â
The prospects were good considering the solvency of the two previous days, but the rain and, very probably, the passage of the Moto2 prototypes, caused the grip of the asphalt to drop, a circumstance that left him without that traction in which he so much supported at Phillip Island , and that rivals both featured.Â
“At no time did I feel as comfortable as in rehearsals. I finished fifth, but after winning it’s not something that feels good,” he said, referring to last Sunday’s win.
“This time I had a hard time. At the start I didn’t play well with the clutch and I got bogged down in the second corner. And then, at no point in the race did I have the necessary traction to be able to get out of the corners quickly. impossible to replicate the rite I had on Friday and Saturday”, summarized Rins, who with that fifth final position consolidates himself in eighth position in the table, with ten points over Miguel Oliveira and 18 behind Johann Zarco, the seventh.
At the gates of the last race, in Valencia and in two weeks, the Barcelonan hopes to be able to close his chapter in Suzuki as it deserves, before getting on a Honda of the LCR team, the same Tuesday after the test in Cheste.Â
For the #42 as well as for the rest of the members of the Hamamatsu team, the day will have a tremendous symbolic load. “Valencia will be a race more of sensations than anything else. It will be exciting, I hope to be able to maintain concentration throughout the weekend”, Rins concluded.
