Rins: "I dreamed that at the Misano test I was testing next year's Suzuki"

The Spaniard faces his last races as a rider for the Hamamatsu brand, which will close its MotoGP division despite having promised to continue in it until 2026. Next year, Alex Rins will ride one of the LCR team’s Hondas in which he will form a couple with a Japanese, either Takaaki Nakagami or Ai Ogura.

Despite the delicate moment that he and all the members of Suzuki are going through, the Catalan lands in Austria with great force, catapulted by the comeback two weeks ago, in the British Grand Prix, in which he started eleventh and he concluded the seventh, after riding in the lead during part of the test.

Rins , who so far this season has been able to get on the podium twice (Argentina and Austin), hopes to straighten out an inertia that even led him to co-lead the World Cup with Fabio Quartararo (in Portugal).

However, since Suzuki’s door slam was revealed, everything went wrong, to the point of accumulating only 17 points in the last six stops on the calendar.

In other circumstances, Rins would be waiting like water in May for the test after the San Marino Grand Prix, in two weeks. But in the current situation, those two training days do not make much sense if in 2023 there will be no Suzuki on the track.

“The Misano test makes sense for Suzuki if there is something new to test. If not, I think it’s just rolling. It would be nice if Suzuki let us test next year’s bike (laughs). I’ve dreamed of that , and it’s no joke,” Rins told Motorsport.com on Thursday.

Despite the setbacks of this 2022, the #42 has no reproaches for those who are in charge of managing the team from the circuits every weekend. Of the panel of executives who decided to close the blind, he prefers to keep what he thinks to himself.

“Suzuki gives me the same support that it gave me in the past, at least on my side of the garage. It is not an easy situation for anyone, given that some of the boys have not yet resolved their future,” the pilot continued, before reveal that Suppo, Suzuki’s team manager, tried to continue the project.

“Livio has been trying until the end to keep the project alive. At Silverstone he brought us all together and told us that there was no option to continue, but until then he believed that it was possible that, if Suzuki did not follow, another team could.” Rins clinched.
