There was just over 15 minutes left in FP2 when Alex Rins crashed at turn 15; a slight drag without further consequences. The rider got up from the gravel and ran to his bike to try to get back to the box and continue training.
However, a marshal grabbed the rider by the arm to prevent him from going to look for the motorcycle and Rins confronted him somewhat abruptly. Suzuki’s finally went to the track road swearing in Aramaic.
“It was a tense moment, during the Moto2 session I went there to talk to the commissioner, explain what happened and clarify things,” explained Rins this Friday in Misano.
“The truth is that at the moment he grabbed my arm he bothered me and I didn’t say a few nice words to him. There are two types of falls, the high-speed one, which immediately triggers the airbag, and the slower one and it doesn’t jump. In the end it was a 150 km/h fall and the airbag didn’t go off, but when the marshal caught me he did it with such force that it went off. That’s where the anger comes from, but I’m telling you, I went to see him later and we solve the issue, it has remained an anecdote”.
In the morning the Suzuki rider finished 8th in the times, but the crash condemned him to 14th position in FP2 and to be provisionally out of Q2.
“The day went quite well for us, it’s a shame about the crash because it cut off our progress a bit. I had a lot of problems stopping the bike with the medium tyre, but when we put the hard tire (in front) I felt more comfortable, but I crashed. The times are coming out, I wouldn’t say easy, but they are good and I think that if the rain respects us tomorrow we can aspire to get into Q2”.
With Joan Mir out, Suzuki lined up this weekend alongside Rins the Japanese Kazuki Watanabe, who was last and made the cut by thousandths.
“Having a fast rider next to the box is always better, it motivates you and when you see that he is ahead, you always try to improve. I think that being here for Watanabe is a gift from Suzuki for his work over the years, when he has entered the box all the world has applauded him, so it is a gift and that he enjoys it”, settled the Barcelonan.
