The Suzuki rider will start ninth on the grid, neither far from the front rows, nor very close either, a usual position for Alex Rins who has shown, on other occasions, to be very capable of coming back if he has a good day and luck, in way that no one throws him at the exit, he accompanies him.
“Let’s see how the start goes, but I think we can get there, it will depend a bit on the pace that Pecco and Fabio impose, but I think so, why not. We have started many times from these positions and we have recovered it at the start, in the first few laps. So I’m going to give my best to be able to reach those in front”, the Suzuki boy set himself the objective.
“The pace we have is not bad, we can improve a bit in the race, which we have already done on other occasions, so let’s see how things go,” he added.
Rins has not scored since the Portimao race, five grand prix accumulating zeros, something that would make anyone consider the race with great caution to try to finish. It is not the case of Rins.
“Honestly no, I’m thinking of going on the attack. It’s true that we’ve had five zeros, but many of them weren’t our fault, but we’re going to go all out”.
This weekend Rins has already been able to use from the beginning the update of his aerodynamic package, which he was unable to test in the Barcelona tests due to the accident he suffered in the race when Takaaki Nakagami threw him.
“We already assembled it in Germany and mine is a little different from the one Joan Mir wears, his has like two wings while my option is more ‘safe’, more similar to the one we wore. I didn’t want to choose the other (the one with Mir) because we didn’t have the opportunity to try it in the test. The one we have now helps to keep the front wheel from lifting more than the previous one, so, in principle, it’s better.”
With Bagnaia racking up poles and being lightning fast, and Quartararo racking up wins and showing great solidity, one would think that starting 9th it would be more realistic to think of fighting in the second group for third place on the podium than trying to go for the two in front.
“It is true that they are being very strong, but because of the pace we have shown and because of how I feel, I think it is realistic on my part, if we start well and recover positions, get to them. Then we will see in the race, but I I feel strong and wanting to try.”
