Ciampino Airport is the second largest airport in Rome. It used to be the only airport in Rome before the construction of the Leonardo Da Vinci International Airport in Fiumicino, to the west. Ciampino has risen to public attention because more than 100 airlines now use the busy airport, many of them budget airlines. Ryanair and Easy Jet fly to Ciampino.

Ciampino Airport Location

Ciampino is located about 15 kilometers or 9 miles southeast of central Rome. If you drive, the SS7 state road, Via Appia Nuova , takes you to the ring road of Rome, or to Rome itself. Please note that you cannot drive into the historic center of Rome without a permit.

How to get to Rome from Ciampino airport

Trains run between Ciampino station, near the airport, and Termini station in Rome 2 or 3 times an hour from 06:00 to 22:28. The trip lasts 15 minutes. Check the current schedule and price on trenitalia.

COTRAL operates an inexpensive bus that connects the airport with the Anagnina metro station (line A), which takes about 20 minutes, and with the Ciampino train station, which takes approximately 5 minutes. From Anagnina Station, it’s a 30-minute direct metro ride to Termini Station, Rome’s main train station. From Ciampino Train Station, there is a direct 15-minute train connection to Roma Termini. COTRAL also operates buses between Ciampino and Fiumicino airports.

Terravision operates inexpensive direct buses between Ciampino and Termini Station, which take approximately 40 minutes. These buses run approximately every 30 minutes during the day and less frequently at night. You can book and purchase tickets (must be printed) through the website at least 12 hours in advance or buy them directly at the Terravision airport counter or at the Rome bus stop.

The bus stop and ticket vending machine are located in the international departure area of the airport, open from 6.10 am to 11.00 pm

After hours, an expensive taxi ride may be your only alternative. Taxis leave from outside the departure terminal. Taxi fares from the airport to central Rome are regulated and must be posted inside the taxi, but fares can be higher at night.
