For the 42-year-old pilot, in some way, the Portuguese event will surely be the last where he can work normally, after saying goodbye to the Italian fans in the previous one, in Misano , and in the next one, in Valencia , do it for the general public.
Rossi is coming off his third top 10 of the season and will try to repeat on a track where he already raced in April. Then, the #46 went down while fighting to get into the top 10, but the feeling was not bad until then.
” Portimão is a difficult track and has some very particular characteristics, which other circuits do not have. The first of the two races this year was not so bad for us, as I was able to work my way into the top ten. Unfortunately, I crashed. The goal this weekend is to try and have a good race and open up a gap towards the front. I had a good feeling there, especially on Sunday, so I hope we can be competitive and repeat a great result like the one we got in the last time in Misano,” Rossi commented in the Petronas Yamaha team’s previous statement.
Dovizioso: “It’s difficult to fight at the moment”
For his part, Andrea Dovizioso did not race in Portimão the first of the two Grand Prix to be held there this year. The three-time MotoGP world runner-up only has the experience there from last year with Ducati.
In what will be his fourth race with the M1, the Forlì rider will try to get to know a bike that finished on the podium six months ago when it was in the hands of Franco Morbidelli.
“The Algarve Circuit is very unique and I really don’t know how it will be with the Yamaha, especially as we are still learning new settings with the bike,” Dovizioso said. “I am very interested to see if we can be more competitive in Portimão, because in Misano we did not have the chance to be competitive with the changing track conditions. I hope to make a step forward because it is difficult to fight at the moment. I also hope that we will have good conditions in free practice, because we need it to keep progressing and complete more laps with the bike”.
