During Friday free practice at the German Grand Prix, Maverick Viñales managed to enter the list of the ten fastest drivers at the Sachsenring . These results show that, as the season progresses, the rider from Rosas is increasingly comfortable and, therefore, more prepared to fight at the front of the MotoGP grid.
For the moment, Viñales is hoping to sign a good record on Saturday, the prelude to the tenth race of the year, in which a pole position could change the course of a season in which he is more than a hundred points behind Leader.
“The sensations are good. In each race I feel better prepared, much more solid, especially in free practice,” assured the Spaniard after concluding practice on Friday.
For the Aprilia rider it is very motivating not to have been far from the benchmarks this Friday at the Sachsenring. And although he is far from Fabio Quartararo in the general classification, this situation could change on Sunday. The one from Rosas has signed a record of 1:20.478 that has placed him in the eighth position of the day.
“My time attack was okay, I didn’t have a big problem,” Maverick confirmed. “[On Saturday] we will have to go into Q2 and do a great qualifying, because I feel like if I start at the front I can stay with the leaders.”
“We worked well [this Friday], we gathered a lot of information and identified the things to improve. I think the margin of progress in the next few days is big. I try to improve every lap and every session. I look better every day, so I’m happy that the development [in the team] remains on an upward curve.”
During the free practice day at the German circuit, Viñales tested a new fairing that did not displease the Spanish rider. The positive feelings of the box could invite us to think that this new piece may be one of the keys to giving the Catalan the opportunity to climb to the top of the drawer.
“In the end, [the fairing] helps on the long straights, it doesn’t seem to bring any negatives. There are positives, like top speed, so we’re still working on that. We think it will work on a lot of tracks, so we’re counting on it right away.” On the motorcycle”.
“On a track with a long straight [like the Sachsenring], we’re going to take advantage of this fairing,” he concluded.
