The return of the summer holidays for Formula 1 was the most exciting, and it is that the two main candidates to fight for the title, Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc, received penalties that will take them to the back of the grid in the GP of Belgium 2022.
In addition to them, five other drivers, Lando Norris, Esteban Ocon, Mick Schumacher, Guanyu Zhou and Valtteri Bottas, will have to serve similar penalties, so, despite starting from the back, they were forced to fight. for the best possible position for Sunday’s start.
In the first of the attempts of the definitive last round, the Dutchman set the best time, leading Carlos Sainz by more than six tenths, who was in virtual pole position , with Sergio Pérez immediately behind. The mistake made by Ferrari when putting the wrong tires on Charles Leclerc, who was reported by radio that he was trying to do the lap despite not being on the right tires, was surprising.
Fernando Alonso was the only one who did not set a time, and the fact is that the Spaniard benefited his teammate, Esteban Ocon with his slipstream to reverse the roles in the second lap, since the Frenchman was one of the pilots sanctioned.
That did not happen with Max Verstappen and Sergio Pérez , so the Mexican had to resort to his ability to go for pole position, but with the two Ferraris. The Monegasque offered his slipstream to the Madrilenian, who although he did not improve on his return, it was enough for him to start on Sunday from the first position.
The Dutchman was the fastest, but Sainz inherited the pole position, and will be accompanied on the front row by Sergio Pérez. Behind, a surprising Fernando Alonso will start third, followed by Lewis Hamilton and George Russell.
With the application of penalties, Max Verstappen will start just ahead of Charles Leclerc, and they will duel to come back to continue in their fight for the world title of the 2022 Formula 1 season.

Belgian GP 2022 F1 Qualifying Q1 Summary
The action on the Spa-Francorchamps track was delayed by an accident in the Porsche Supercup just minutes before the green light for Formula 1 single-seaters. With the ghosts of the past for episodes such as 2021 in the same scenario, the FIA decided to postpone the start of the qualifying session until 16:25 local time .
Once the damaged protections were repaired, Race Direction gave permission to the pilots to compete, being Nicholas Latifi the one who premiered the renewed asphalt with his Williams. The varied penalties of some important names, such as Max Verstappen, Charles Leclerc or even Lando Norris, made the cars in the lower part fight for a possible 13th position .
After the first minutes in which the track was not yet in optimal conditions, the pack went out to the circuit where Mick Schumacher set the first reference with the soft ones, a 1:47.929 that they soon began to beat as the laps passed. . The championship leader recorded a 1:44.581 that served him to be half a second faster than Carlos Sainz, the only one who could get close to the Dutchman in this first cut of Q1.
The Alpines seemed to be clear candidates for the ‘best of the rest’, with Estaban Ocon and Fernando Alonso in fifth and sixth place respectively, and only surpassed by the Red Bull and Ferrari, although the Mercedes were still in search of the pace they displayed in previous grand prizes. The cars returned to the pits for one last try, but it was Lance Stroll, Nicholas Latifi, Mick Schumacher and the two Alfa Romeos who were in the danger zone.
On that final lap, the rain made a small appearance that didn’t stop some from improving, and that meant it was Sebastian Vettel, Nicholas Latifi, Kevin Magnussen, Yuki Tsunoda and Valtteri Bottas who closed out the leaderboard in Q1 , though those would not be their final positions because the sanctions of the rest still had to be applied.

F1 Belgian GP 2022 Qualifying Q2 Summary
The second round of qualifying provided strong emotions after seeing that the Mercedes did not have the speed they thought when they arrived at Spa-Francorchamps , so they did not take long to jump on the track to set an early time. The rest joined the Silver Arrows, with only Daniel Ricciardo waiting in the box as he watched Charles Leclerc exit.
Lewis Hamilton was the first to offer a record, but since he did it with a three-lap soft, it did not represent a very competitive and valid one to make the cut. Proof of this was the almost two seconds that Max Verstappen, the fastest driver, took from him at the end of the first attempt, with Sergio Pérez second and Carlos Sainz third.
The Spaniard offered to give his teammate, Charles Leclerc, a slipstream, who made a mistake at the Bus Stop by losing the rear of his F1-75, which cost him several tenths and sent him down to sixth. But business was this first lap of Q2 for Alex Albon, Guanyu Zhou, Lance Stroll, Mick Schumacher and Daniel Ricciardo, who were in the elimination zone with less than three minutes to go before the checkered flag.
On the last lap, all but the two Red Bulls jumped onto the track, and the Alpines tried a tactic whereby Ocon would slipstream Fernando Alonso on the Kemmel Straight, which helped the Spaniard climb up to the fifth position that would become an eighth once everyone finished their attempt.
In this way, Daniel Ricciardo, Pierre Gasly, Guanyu Zhou, Lance Stroll and Mick Schumacher were the drivers who ended up eliminated, and Alex Albon’s move to Q3 was surprising with a, a priori, uncompetitive Williams.
