Sainz maintains his confidence after "losing his feelings a bit"

With Formula 1 back in action after a three-week break at the Spa-Francorchamps circuit , a track that kicks off the final phase of the 2022 season, Carlos Sainz seems to have started on the right foot.

The Spanish driver of the Scuderia Ferrari is one of the drivers who still has mathematical options to become world champion, the one from Maranello has a total of 156 units at the moment, due to the 258 points Max Verstappen, but he does not rule out giving the surprise .

On the first day of the 2022 Formula 1 Belgian Grand Prix, Sainz led the first free practice session and finished fifth in the second, just over a second off the fastest time recorded by the current world leader in drivers, the Dutchman from Red Bull.

The driver from Madrid spoke about his sensations at the wheel of the F1-75 as soon as Free Practice 2 was over and, although he started Friday as the fastest, he acknowledged that a series of changes to his car complicated FP2.

“Overall it was a good Friday. In Free Practice 1 I felt comfortable with the balance of the car. In Free Practice 2 we tried some changes that didn’t work as expected and then we lost the feeling a bit.”

Despite these unexpected problems, Carlos Sain z is still confident in his chances for this weekend at Spa-Francorchamps, as he explained that they know where the time he has lost today is compared to Verstappen and, to a lesser extent, with his partner Charles Leclerc.

“Still, I’m confident we know where to find the time for tomorrow and the pace on long runs has been good.”

“So overall I think we’re in a good position for the rest of the weekend,” concluded the Spanish Ferrari driver.

Max Verstappen and Charles Leclerc, two of Carlos Sainz ‘s main rivals this season and surely his two biggest rivals to beat, will start from the back of the grid at this Belgian GP after being penalized for changing elements of their power units, which gives the driver from Madrid a great opportunity to seek his second victory in Formula 1 .
