Sainz remains on the podium in Baku and Alonso signs a hopeful sixth place

A priori, with the Grand Prix of Azerbaijan will be linked a series of races that should not be favorable to Ferrari. This has been recognized by engineers from the Italian team and also by Leclerc and Carlos Sainz . After a Monaco Grand Prix in which the Madrilenian finished in second position, Baku should put Ferrari back in their place, which is behind Mercedes and Red Bull , and on this track, also behind McLaren . This should be the case a priori, but Carlos Sainz has once again been third in both FP1 and FP2. Fernando Alonso , for his part, has moved into the Top-10 in both sessions, being sixth in the last one.

As in Monaco, and despite having its rear wing revised in Baku at the request of the FIA, Red Bull has once again been unattainable for Ferrari. Max Verstappen was ahead of Leclerc and Carlos Sainz in FP1, and Sergio Pérez and Verstappen were first and second in FP2 ahead of Carlos Sainz.

In this second practice session, the Spanish rider was ahead of his teammate. Fernando Alonso, meanwhile, was sixth behind Pierre Gasly . Also in FP1 the Asturian was ahead of Leclerc . Although Fernando Alonso was ninth in the first session, Esteban Ocon was sixteenth; although it has climbed to the ninth in the second.

Alonso, ahead of the Mercedes in Baku

Fernando Alonso was ahead of the Mercedes in Free Practice 2. Hamilton finished eleventh this round and Bottas sixteenth. In Free Practice 1 Lewis Hamilton was seventh and Valtteri Bottas tenth just behind Fernando Alonso .

Fourth in Free Practice 1, demonstrating the might of Red Bull and Ferrari in Baku, was Sergio Pérez and fifth Daniel Ricciardo . Again ahead of Fernando Alonso in this round was Pierre Gasly, who was sixth, while Lando Norris finished eighth.

A priori, Baku should be a favorable circuit for McLaren and, especially, for Lando Norris. However, the Englishman was eighth again in FP2, while Ricciardo fell to thirteenth.
