Sainz: "We had problems with the tires and the balance"

For the second consecutive year, Carlos Sainz has arrived at his home grand prix, that of Spain , wearing the colors of the most successful team in the history of the category, although unlike last year, in 2022 for the first time does with a really competitive car.

Although it is true that to date the results of the Spanish driver have not been as expected, the Madrid native is confident of achieving his first victory in Formula 1 this week before his own fans at the Circuit de Barcelona – Catalunya.

With a Ferrari F1-75 that has been modified in several areas with the Scuderia ‘s first major upgrade package so far this season, Carlos Sainz hopes to end his drought of victories on a talismanic circuit for him, although until At the moment, the training sessions have not gone off without a hitch either.

After an FP1 in which the #55 finished second behind Charles Leclerc and with good feelings, fourth place in FP2 once again left a bittersweet taste that is somewhat reminiscent of these last Grand Prix in which the Spanish driver has acknowledged not feeling comfortable.

Once the day was over, Carlos Sainz acknowledged that the sensations were not the best and explained the various problems he had to face and that they will have to improve for Saturday’s classification and Sunday’s race.

“FP2 was a bit tricky compared to FP1, which was more positive as we had problems with the tires and also with the balance after the changes we made.

“We have to analyze it and find the right settings for tomorrow, luckily we have a lot of data and I am sure we will find a more comfortable set-up.”

Tire degradation has been a problem for Ferrari at the start of the season and due to the high temperatures in Barcelona this weekend, it could be one of the big keys in its battle with Red Bull.

“It looks like there’s a lot of heat degradation, which could be crucial for the race, so we’ll be keeping an eye on that as well.”

After a decade, the Circuit de Barcelona – Catalunya will once again be filled with fans full of enthusiasm to see Formula 1 and, above all, Fernando Alonso and Carlos Sainz , a motivation that has already been noted in the first two sessions practice this Friday.

“I’m very impressed with the number of fans in the stands today. It’s fantastic to see all these people supporting us, it’s a great motivation!” Said the Ferrari driver from Madrid, praising all the fans who packed some areas of the layout.
