Formula 1 presented the schedule for all the races of the 2022 season a few weeks before the cars of the new generation took to the track for the first time in the winter tests of the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya.
The Great Circus will manage to beat the record for grand prizes this year, with a whopping 23 weekends of competition, which exceeds last season, where a total of 22 were held.
The first date will take place on March 20 at the Shakir track, in Bahrain, where the second pre-season tests will also be held. In this inaugural race, being in the Middle East, the traffic light will go out on Sunday at 4:00 p.m. in Spanish peninsular time (6:00 p.m. local time), when the sun goes down in the Persian Gulf.
For the Spanish Grand Prix, and in most European tracks, the 20 single-seaters will be ready to compete from 3:00 p.m. in Spanish time, although the large number of events around the world will mean that fans will have to be very Pay attention to the time the race will start.
The one in Australia stands out, which returns after two years off the calendar due to the pandemic, which will be held at 07:00 in Spain (00:05 in GMT), and the one in Japan, which will be at the same time.
The appointment that will keep us glued to the television until later will be the one in Miami, which debuts at the Great Circus, and which will start on May 8 at 8:30 p.m. in Spain (7:30 p.m. in GMT).
As part of the reduction of the weekend to three days, eliminating the day on Thursday, dedicated to serving the media, Fridays will have more movement. The press conferences will be held on Friday morning, so free practice will be moved to the afternoon.
Thus, Free Practice 1 will start on the vast majority of tracks at 1:00 p.m. or 2:00 p.m., instead of the typical 11:30 a.m. Free Practice 2 , meanwhile, will be delayed from the typical 3pm to 5pm for at least half of the 23 races.
Saturdays will also be changed, with the third free practice session arriving an hour later than usual, as will qualifying and their respective elimination rounds.
Sunday will be the only day that does not change, and the tradition of starting the races on the hour will continue, and not as happened years ago when the traffic lights went out after 10 minutes of tense waiting.
