Sergio Pérez, Red Bull driver, has shown a clear improvement in performance at the beginning of the season, achieving eight out of nine classifications for Q3 in the qualifying sessions and great results in the race.
The Canadian Grand Prix was the first round of the course in which Checo Pérez did not manage to get into the top 10 after an accident in Q2, later ending up abandoning the race due to a problem in the gearbox of his RB18 .
After nine grand prix, the Mexican remains in second place in the drivers’ championship behind his Red Bull teammate, Max Verstappen.
The driver from Guadalajara has shown a great improvement in his performance that is demonstrated in his results. He himself believes that everything is due to the fact that he is more adapted, both to the team and to the single-seater, due to its greater similarity with his driving style.
In 2021, his first season with the energy drink team, Pérez encountered more trouble than expected in finding an ideal set-up that he felt comfortable behind the wheel of the RB16B.
“Yeah, I think I definitely feel more comfortable with the car compared to last year,” Sergio Perez told the media at the 2022 Canadian Grand Prix.
The Red Bull driver acknowledged that he now feels comfortable from the first moment he takes the car out on track at each circuit, a key aspect in the development of the weekend.
“For example, it took me a little longer to adapt to the car from last season, but this year I am lucky enough to feel comfortable from the first practice session and I can start working on the car to extract its maximum performance.”
“That’s a big difference from the weekends [last year], so when it comes to qualifying I’m much more prepared and similarly when I come to the race we have a good foundation. I’m confident with him. car and I know what I have to do with the team to get the most out of it”, concluded a Mexican driver who for the first time seems to have a real chance of winning the F1 world title.
