Sid Meier’s Civilization VI: Gathering Storm

As soon as you enter the first minutes of this title, you realize why this game from 2K and Firaxis Games continues to be a leader in strategy video games since it was released back in 199 1 by the great video game designer Sid Meier. We are immersed in a living planet, in which geology and climate are not characteristics alien to your evolution through history. Volcanoes, hurricanes, sandstorms, blizzards, accompanied by floods, droughts … the effects of climate change will be felt as you pass through this new expansion of Civilization VI.

Apart from the environmental effects and the introduction of consumable resources, we will be able to make our presence known at the World Congress and achieve a new diplomatic victory. Thanks to Gathering Storm we will have access to the future time within the technology and principles tree and we will have up to nine more leaders, several additional civilizations and new units, districts, wonders, buildings …

What’s new in content

Added seven wonders of the world and seven natural wonders, 18 units, 15 upgrades, 9 buildings, 5 districts, 2 sets of buildings, 9 technologies, and 10 principles.

Notable events

In this new expansion we can highlight two scenarios that will mark a before and after in human history: the Black Death, which ravaged Europe and Western Asia in the mid-fourteenth century; a pandemic that wiped out more population than any other event in history. Approximately 25 million people died in Europe alone. The Black Death ruined economies and ultimately transformed the society of the Western world. We have to lead our nation in this dark scenario: keep citizens alive, strengthen the economy, and ensure that citizens do not lose faith in a world ravaged by terror and despair; the war machine: another of the pillars of this expansion is the war machine that, at the beginning of the First World War, France and Germany staged one of the most incredible and disconcerting military campaigns in history. And here you will have to choose side: either France or Germany, your choice will guide your objective; if you choose Germany, the mission will be to capture Paris; If you choose France, you will have to prevent the capture of the Parisian capital.

Regarding the general mechanics of the game, it is clear that climate change adds a lot of depth to the location of cities . Natural disasters are very balanced, they are not too destructive but they have a direct impact on our game. They must be taken into account when establishing your civilization.

In short, Gathering Storm does what we think a good expansion should do : modify the way it is played, correct some of the problems present – such as the spy system that has been improved with new options or more improvements on existing systems. – and this does not completely change the cycle of the main game. The game is still extremely addictive.

Note: Sid Meier’s Civilization VI has a PEGI +12 rating, and is available for Windows PC.
