Singapore will remain on the F1 calendar until 2028

The first night race in Formula 1 history had to be absent from the calendar in both 2020 and 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but its return is scheduled this year for October 2 as the central event of a treble which includes Russia and Japan.

The latest extension to the Singapore GP contract with FOM was a four-year deal announced in September 2017, and was supposed to last until 2021.

However, the last two races did not take place and therefore the latest contract signed represents a two-year deal plus a further five in recognition of the canceled events.

F1 has been keen to expand its relationships with promoters who lost races to COVID-19 to help them regain momentum and secure the long-term future of their events in motorsport’s top flight.

The organisers, in turn, are aware that there is growing interest in potential new races and therefore there will be increasing competition for an egg in future Grand Circus calendars.

An agreement was reached in November to run the Chinese GP until 2025, although the Shanghai race will be absent from the calendar for the third time in 2022.

“I am delighted that Formula 1 will continue to race in Singapore for another seven years. The Marina Bay street circuit hosted the first night race in F1 history in 2008, and they have continually thrilled teams and drivers ever since. “, said Stefano Domenicali, CEO of F1.

“Singapore holds a special place on the series calendar, and this extension is part of our long-term commitment to continue to grow Formula 1 in Asia.”

“The plans that are in place to reduce the carbon footprint of this event are impressive and align with our plans to be Net Zero Carbon as early as 2030, so I look forward to continuing our successful relationship with the Singapore GP and the Tourism Board. of Singapore,” he concluded.
