Following the two-week break since the Austrian GP, the teams have used the time to give the green light to a series of adjustments that they hope will improve their performance in F1 2022.
The main improvement of the Ferrari car in the 2022 French GP of F1
Ferrari’s modified front and middle floor sections and revised diffuser had already been seen in the pitlane at Circuit Paul Ricard on Thursday.
The team explained that the changes were part of a normal development cycle and would be applied in future races.
“Its objective is to improve the general aerodynamic performance throughout the car’s operating plane and is not specific to the Paul Ricard track,” explained the team in the document submitted to the FIA.

Red Bull Racing has also focused on the ground area in its changes for this weekend, and has revised the geometries of the fences that extend to the edge of that part of the car.
The team explained it to the FIA this way: “The layout of the fences has changed to reposition local pressure distributions to improve loading while maintaining flow stability.”
The RB18 is also fitted with a revised upper cascade of winglets behind its rear brakes. This is intended to improve downforce, but without altering the lower wing cascade or adjacent brake line outlets.

Mercedes, which will sport a revised cooling duct in its nose that we saw on Thursday, has also made changes to the lip of the floor and the front brake duct.
On the ground there is a reduced camber on the edge ahead of the rear tire.
The team explained that this “decreases the local ground loading by reducing the local slope, thus improving the flow to the diffuser, which in turn increases the diffuser loading.”
The addition of internal grilles at the front brake duct outlet is intended to improve cooling, as very high temperatures are expected in France this weekend.

Alpine is also following its development momentum and has made changes to the edge of the floor and the elements around it.
It has added a revised under-bottom winglet aiming for a higher energy hit ‘off the body’ off the ground, to improve airflow under the flat bottom and its edges. Adjustments to the fencing around it should help improve airflow to the rear of the car.
