This is the conclusion of the latest study carried out by the University of Washington in San Luis (USA), as it suggests that standing up during meetings indirectly provides certain benefits that result in improved performance in our workplace.
For the study, which has been published in the journal Social Psychological and Personality Science , the researchers were interested in studying the effect on productivity of standing versus sitting . To do this, they asked study participants to work as a team for 30 minutes to develop and record a college recruiting video. One of the teams worked in a room with chairs and the other in a room without seats.
To evaluate the performance of both groups, several parameters were taken into account : teamwork, the quality of the videos created or the intensity of the emotions of the participants during the work meeting, thanks to a sensor on the wrist that measured the sweat produced, an indicator of "physiological arousal."
The results revealed that group members who remained standing during the session were more enthusiastic about the topic , were less territorial about the ideas presented, and presented better quality videos than those who had remained seated for the meeting.
It was very revealing for the researchers to see how a small change in the physical workspace can affect the way in which the members of a group interact and work .
