Steiner reacts to Rich Energy's latest: "Again…"

Rich Energy became Haas’ title sponsor before the 2019 season began, but the deal fell apart midway through the year after the energy drink company’s owner, William Storey , claimed he had terminated it due to bad business. team results.

However, confusion reigned in the Formula 1 paddock, especially after Rich Energy itself explained that the tweet announcing the rupture of the agreement came from a “renegade individual”. Ultimately, though, Haas’ split became a reality.

Rich Energy returned to racing in 2020, when it became title sponsor of the OMG Racing team, which participates in the British Superbike championship, in what they called a “multi-million dollar deal.”

But history is cyclical, and it repeated itself last week, when Rich Energy announced, once again via Twitter, that they had terminated the agreement. Storey claimed that the OMG team had “repeatedly acted in bad faith”, speaking to Superbike.com .

At Paul Ricard , the host circuit for the French GP , Motorsport.com asked Gunther Steiner , director of Haas, who suffered a similar thing himself when Rich Energy stopped sponsoring his team, if he had followed the development of this last story, to which he replied: “I’ve read it, because I saw it”.

“It was like ‘the same thing again,’ that was my only comment, like that again.”

“I don’t know how much money those guys got, but we at least got something in the end.”

“But what’s going on was pretty obvious. So I was surprised? No.”

Asked if he had any advice for the OMG Racing team, Steiner said: “I don’t have any advice on that.”

Following its break with Rich Energy in mid-2019, Haas entered Formula 1 without a title sponsor in 2020, before linking up with Russian company Uralkali for 2021, after confirming Nikita Mazepin in one of its seats.

But after the deal was terminated in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and sanctions against the Mazepin family were announced, Haas said he wanted to avoid rushing into any new deal to be their title sponsor.

For its part, OMG Racing responded to Rich Energy and Storey’s claims by saying that it has never been sponsored by the company itself, but rather by RichOMG Limited , which is the holder of the global rights to sell and distribute the energy drink.

“Following discussions with RichOMG Limited earlier this week, the Rich Energy OMG Racing team has been assured that all other existing sponsorships that have been taken over by RichOMG Limited also remain firmly intact and paid for,” a statement from the team explained.

That was followed by a statement from Rich Energy , once again via Twitter, saying that the contract had been terminated and that it was “up to British Superbikes how to present the team this weekend, given the unequivocal position presented in the previous statement”.

Meanwhile, before the 2022 F1 French GP began, William Storey posted a video on Twitter in which he could be seen climbing into a Renault Formula 1 car, claiming that he was “faster than most professional pilots.
