In contrast to Blue Monday or the saddest day of the year, today, June 20, Yellow Day or the happiest day is celebrated. The idea arose in 2005, when the British psychologist Cliff Arnall decided to devise a formula to measure happiness, optimism and positivity as part of a commercial campaign.
Over time I have learned to see the two faces of practically every situation I go through in my life: the good and the bad side. Guilt is a feeling that is not exempted from this categorization either, because although it is hateful, it generates anguish and unease, it also helps us to reflect: today I want to play the "devil's advocate" and talk about a small positive part that contains guilt.
What is happiness? It is something very subjective and personal; it is clear that for each person, happiness will involve different things. However, we can speak of two predominant approaches to happiness in psychology.
The happiness of our children is the greatest goal we have as parents. Sometimes we believe that happiness is in great things, but the truth is that it is built on small customs that we acquire in our day to day life.
"Mom, have you seen what I can do?", "Look what a beautiful drawing I have colored!", "Dad, look at me! I'm going to run at full speed!" ... Our children constantly demand our attention. Parents are their best audience, and it is normal for them to like us to admire them, value what they do and make them feel proud.
For some years, I decided that instead of wanting to do everything and achieve everything, I would focus on being happy, including in my role as a mom. Peer pressure and comparisons can make us focus a lot on what we are or are not doing, it is whether it is worthy of merit or recognition ... but in the end, what will really matter is having a life that has made us happy.
Personally, I believe that there is no more rewarding life experience than having children. Without a doubt there are many things that can make us happy, but none of them compares with all that excitement and feeling of joy, warmth and satisfaction that being a father or mother gives us.
