The 5 most extravagant workouts in Milwaukee

If you are like most people, you are looking for a New Years resolution to stay fit. And in Wisconsin, due to the icy sidewalks and streets, not to mention the cold temperatures, that likely means, during the winter months, hanging out at a gym or fitness center. But why go for a treadmill or stationary bike? Today, gyms in the Milwaukee area offer interesting and unique classes that not only aim to get your heart pumping, but are also a blast. If you want a new style of yoga or want to try something for the first time (hello, indoor rowing?), Here are some options.

Please note that all offer direct access options, so you can test to see if the training is good, forgive the pun, right for you. Some are even temporary solutions for outdoor recreation in the summer, such as rowing and biking. But more importantly, these workouts disguise themselves as fun (hi hip hop!) But they also keep your heart beating.

1. Barre Burner in downtown Wisconsin Athletic Club

Forget those images of flying and graceful ballerinas. Barbell workouts are the ultimate high-impact workout routine. In this one, which lasts one hour, you not only work on the bar, but also use your free time and the use of free weights. A note of caution: this is designed to be a 7 week session.

When: Friday at 11 am

 

2. Slow, hot flow in Milwaukee Power Yoga

When: Monday at 7 pm and Saturday at 11 am

 

3. Aerial art in Essential Dance Studio

Just moved into her new Bay View studio, instructor Charity Harvey is extending her schedule when it comes to yoga that extends out of the box. An example is “Introduction for Beginners,” a 90-minute class that teaches the basics of aerial art yoga. What you’ll walk away, says Harvey, is “body, strength, and grace.”

When: Monday at 7 pm (registration is recommended as there is a maximum of six students for each class)

 

4. Spire Ride and Spire Fitness Studio

With a large amount of muscle movement in a 45 minute class, the claim is that you will burn 600 calories thanks to your time on the WaterRower. By targeting 84 percent of your muscles, without weakening your joints too much, you’ll be toned in no time.

When: Friday at 6 a.m., Saturday at 8 a.m., Sunday at 9:15 a.m. and 10:30 a.m., Tuesday at 5:30 a.m. and 7:05 p.m., and Wednesday at 5:45 a.m. and 5 p.m. : 30 pm

 

5. Introduction to Hip Hop at Danceworks MKE

Think you can’t shake it Why not get some training from an expert? In this 75-minute class, in which the schools of “breaking,” “popping,” “blocking,” “krumping,” “spinning,” and more, you’ll be a hit at the clubs (while also toning your body ).

When: Tuesday and Wednesday at 7:30 pm and Wednesday at 7:15 pm
