Even if it is only by a minute of difference, between one twin and another there is always a time difference at birth, one brother ” older” than another. Or almost always. Because identical twins Aria and Skylar came into the world at exactly the same time.
It happened in November, at St George’s Hospital in London, and it is touching to see the image of the two identical sisters huddled together at birth.
“They looked like a single baby”
This is how one of her parents, Ryan Morgan, describes the birth of their daughters as “koalas clinging to each other.”
The camera captured the stunning moment when the two sisters were born hugging while their surrogate mother delivered them by caesarean section at a UK hospital.
Although the girls were premature and spent several weeks in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, they are already home with their parents.
And according to one of them, Kyran Trodden, in Today, it seems that they are just as synchronized as when they were born: “They make the same own noises at the same time and they also calm each other.”
But that need to be together was already common while they remained in the NICU, where the nurses put them together in the same incubator when they cried.
“If changing and feeding them wasn’t enough to calm them down, I would put Aria in Skylar’s incubator and they would snuggle. We would find them almost on top of each other.”
In fact, Kyran says that he even asked a nurse if they were comfortable and could breathe, how close they were: “He assured us that was how they liked to be.”
Diagnosed with Feto-Fetal Transfusion syndrome
The happy parents assured the Daily Mail that they are enjoying their daughters every minute, especially with the fear they went through during pregnancy “of losing one or both .” The girls were diagnosed with Feto-Fetal Transfusion Syndrome (TTTS) at 20 weeks’ gestation, an alteration that occurs when blood flows unevenly in the uterus between twins who share a placenta, depriving a twin of blood.
And it is that Kyran and Ryan, have shared the entire process of surrogacy and evolution of their little ones on their Instagram account “K & R Morgan-Trodden”.
Her twins were born ten weeks before her due date (early February). Skyler weighed only 2.2 pounds (less than 1 kg) and her sister Aria only a few grams more, 1.08 kilos (2.4 pounds). Now, they are that pretty.
One of the parents, positive for Covid
But the scares did not end when his daughters were born, since Kyran tested positive for coronavirus the day after his daughters were born, and both he and his partner had to quarantine away from the newborns. They assure that, although “it broke our hearts not being able to be with them” :
“The staff was absolutely amazing and they kept us informed every day with photos and videos.”
The couple met five years ago and decided to become parents two years ago. Looking back on the trip, they explain that “it was incredible, we had our ups and downs, laughter and tears, and a lot of emotions. It put us to the test.”
They add that the process put them to the test, as when they discovered that they were going to have two babies, but without a doubt it has all been worth it:
“We will always be indebted to our surrogate mother and we cannot thank her enough for the gift of two precious lives. There are no words to express how grateful we are.”
