A 400-acre seasonal park, open March through December, Carowinds, like its namesake name, has an ever-changing schedule of hours and days that it is open.
Location
Located in Charlotte, on the border of North and South Carolina, the park was named after a way of referencing the Carolinas and the winds that cross the border between the two states. In fact, two of the park’s roller coasters start in North Carolina and cross state lines.
Story
The park was opened in 1973 by Charlotte businessman Earl Patterson Hall, who was inspired by a 1956 trip to Disneyland in California. Currently owned and operated by Cedar Fair, the park changed hands several times over the decades, including ownership by Paramount. For 13 years, the park had been called “Paramount’s Carowinds.”
Rides and attractions
The park has 64 attractions, attractive for all levels, from a mini-park for children, called Snoopy Camp, after the popular Peanuts franchise, to some of the more aggressive and aggressive style attractions. The rides at Carowinds are based on eight thematic areas.
Mega roller coasters and gigantic roller coasters, named for their varying degrees of height, are not for the faint of heart. Accommodation in Carowinds
Carowinds offers accommodations at their Camp Wilderness where you can reserve a fully equipped 1,100 square foot executive cabin, accommodating up to 14 people with four bedrooms and three bathrooms, plus a spacious great room with a 65 ”flat screen TV along with a wraparound porch with rocking chairs, an outdoor grill and patio.
If you have a smaller travel party, you may want to consider a stay in a two-bedroom, one-bath cabin that sleeps up to eight people. One bedroom has a double bed and the other has two bunk beds, as well as a futon sofa that converts to a double bed (sheets not included) in the living room.
These cabins have kitchens, a dining room, satellite television, air conditioning, and hot water.
If you have your own RV or tent accommodation, Camp Wilderness has RV sites, pop-ups, and tents. The RV site can accommodate RVs up to 40 feet long. The paved RV site has full connections to water, sewer, and 50-amp electrical service. In addition, there are 56 spacious tents and pop-ups with 30 amp electrical and water hookups. Each site has a charcoal grill.
