The Cyclotron, the bicycle of the future

It has been to see this innovative means of transport and, inevitably, to remember the mythical science fiction film Tron (1982) and also its sequel, the less mythical Tron: Legacy (2010). The Cyclotron is an electric bicycle made of carbon fiber and whose wheels, as you can see in the image, do not have spokes; What it does have is LED lights that are activated automatically in dark places, which is very useful, for example, on roads without public lighting. It also allows the bike to be much more visible to other vehicles.

After more than three years of development, its creators –Cyclotron Cycles, based in Nice (France) – believe that “it is the next great step in the evolution of the bicycle” and that in The Cyclotron is “the future of cycling” . Of course, there is no one who denies that the design is, in addition to aerodynamic, revolutionary: two wheels without spokes or inner tubes and without visible cables , since they are all contained inside, even those of the brakes.

It also has an app that will allow you to know the data related to each trip (such as speed or kilometers traveled), sensors that will warn you if the battery is low – which will prevent you from being stranded at the most inopportune moment – and It even offers optional services like a GPS and theft prevention system to help you locate the bike.

The lithium battery has an autonomy of more than eight hours , is installed under the saddle and can be easily removed to proceed with recharging from any outlet.

It is available in three different sizes: S, M and L, and also offers two driving styles : Sport, very agile for those who want to ride faster; and the Comfort one, to circulate more relaxed and in an upright position. It is enough with two small adjustments: in the seat and the handlebars.

Its developers have carried out a financing campaign through the Kickstarter crowdfunding platform and, even before the end of the period, they had already far exceeded the initial 50,000 euros they needed to start the project. The first units will reach their buyers from June 2017. The price? From a minimum of 899 euros, the one with twelve marches; and of 1,299 euros, that of eighteen.
