The DGT clarifies what the new orange traffic sign is

For a long time the DGT has used social networks to inform all drivers of the news regarding signs or sanctions, among other issues. We recently talked about a new sign to identify Low Emission Zones, and today it is the turn to find out the meaning of an orange DGT sign that has already been installed on some Spanish roads.

It is a sign with an orange background and a drawing of a truck, a car and a speck, on some waves. What does that mean? That in the next few kilometers (5.7 according to the image that the DGT has shared on its social networks) the road is dangerous and speeding is especially guarded .

“If you see this sign on a conventional road, it is warning you that this is one of the most dangerous sections and that speeding is especially monitored for the length of the section indicated. Drive at the right speed “

From the drawing we can deduce that in the next few kilometers there is a radar to control the speed at which the vehicles circulate , but nothing could be further from reality.

New speed limits

Following the new orange DGT sign , it is worth remembering what the new speed limits are in cities. The measure went into effect on May 11:

  • 20 kilometers per hour: streets with a single carriageway and sidewalk platform. That is, roads in which there is no type of separation between the sidewalk for pedestrians and the road for vehicles.
  • 30 kilometers per hour: streets with a single lane in each direction.
  • 50 kilometers per hour: streets with two or more lanes in each direction.

City councils can lower these generic speeds if they consider it appropriate with prior specific signaling.

And, finally, it should be noted that the option of exceeding the maximum speed allowed on secondary roads by 20 kilometers per hour when overtaking has been eliminated . Therefore, if the road can travel at a maximum of 80 kilometers per hour, no vehicle can exceed this speed to overtake another.
