A long lap imposed on him after qualifying on Saturday failed to stop Jack Miller from savoring the German podium. The Australian rider managed to cross the finish line as the third fastest on the hot German track, giving Ducati the opportunity to shine on a circuit that, historically, has not been one of the best for the factory.
In a race where only 16 drivers managed to cross the checkered flag, Miller’s good feeling on his Desmosedici made the difference in the tenth round of the year. For Miller, third place at the Sachsenring was a breakthrough after a few weeks of poor performance.
This matter was dealt with in depth during the test day in Barcelona, a productive session in which Ducati squeezed all the information accumulated by its two regular drivers during the nine races of 2022.
“I have regained confidence,” the Australian ventured to express. The good news was happily received by the press, who did not hesitate to ask the Ducati rider where these sensations came from.
“In the Barcelona tests and in the last three races we were able to find something,” the Australian told reporters at the Sachsenring. “I’ve been at Ducati for a long time and we’ve had different positions, as well as some settings and a different set-up compared to the rest”.
“So, since we hadn’t gotten that many points either, we wanted to test things in Barcelona and so we did. We found more confidence in the front end, and that has allowed me to come back [in the race] and put the bike where I wanted, even in these tough conditions.”
This has been the third podium for Miller, the most difficult for the official Ducati rider, who is seventh in the world championship with equal points with the sixth (Pecco Bagnaia) and only one of the fifth (Brad Binder). Thus, the #43 has regained confidence in the Desmosedici GP22 , a good feeling that he hopes to repeat in the last race before the summer break, the Dutch GP this weekend.
